Garissa Governor Nathif and CS Chirchir conduct fact-finding mission at Masinga Dam

Energy CS Davis Chirchir, accompanied by PS Alex Wachira, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, and other government officials, conducted a tour and fact-finding mission at Masinga Dam.
Energy CS Davis Chirchir, accompanied by PS Alex Wachira, Garissa Governor Nathif Jama, and other government officials, conducted a tour and fact-finding mission at Masinga Dam. This visit comes at a time when KenGen has reduced power generation at Masinga due to low water levels in the Seven Forks reservoir, despite heavy rainfall across the country.
CS Davis Chirchir expressed concern about the situation at Masinga Dam, stating, "It's crucial for us to assess the impact of the reduced power generation at Masinga, considering the low water levels in the Seven Forks reservoir. This will help us make informed decisions on how to manage our energy resources effectively."

During the tour, Governor Nathif Jama emphasised the need for collaborative efforts to address the challenges posed by low water levels. He said, "As we witness the impact of low water levels at Masinga Dam, it's essential for all stakeholders to work together to find sustainable solutions. The effects extend beyond the energy sector, affecting communities downstream."
PS Alex Wachira highlighted the strategic measures KenGen has taken to manage the situation. He explained, "While we have reduced power generation at Masinga, we are maximising output at the lower dams like Kamburu, Gitaru, Kindaruma, and Kiambere. This strategy allows us to optimise power generation while managing flooding from Thiba River, which flows into Kamburu Dam."
KenGen officials attribute the flooding in Garissa and other downstream areas to rivers flowing beyond Kiambere Dam, specifically mentioning Rivers Ena, Mutonga, Kathita, and Thura. The company is closely monitoring water levels and river flows to make informed decisions on power generation and water release.
CS Davis Chir Chir concluded the tour by stating, "We are committed to finding sustainable solutions to the challenges posed by fluctuating water levels. This requires a coordinated effort from all stakeholders, and we will work together to ensure the reliable supply of energy while mitigating the impact on communities downstream."
